Quest Design – A Second Chance

A Second Chance is a short side quest I designed, wrote and implemented as a mod for Fallout 4. It’s a fairly straightforward fetch quest, as I created it primarily for the purposes of teaching myself the Fallout 4 Creation Kit’s quest and dialogue systems. However, I still wanted the quest to be engaging and packed with backstory, as I was also designing its main NPC Delia Sharpe and the corresponding quest locations to feature in-game.

I created the following quest design template to reflect Fallout 4’s quest objective stages and its four-pronged prompt and response dialogue system. Appended at the end of the document are the additional flavor texts for Delia’s journal entries and her blueprints folder. There are also some screenshots of the quest and dialogue’s implementation in the Creation Kit.
